Why feature walls work so well here
Dubai homes tend to be generous in volume, with big windows, stone or porcelain floors and high ceilings. That's beautiful, but it can also read as cool and echoey. A feature wall — timber, upholstery, textured plaster or stone — introduces warmth, softens acoustics and gives the eye something to rest on. It is one of the highest-impact, best-value moves in a whole interior.
The materials
Fluted & slatted timber
The defining contemporary look: vertical ribs of oak, walnut or a wood-effect finish that catch light and cast a subtle rhythm of shadow. Fluted panelling is warm, tactile and quietly luxurious, and it softens sound — which is why it has become the go-to behind beds, TVs and in entrances. It suits almost every room and pairs beautifully with stone and brass.
Book-matched stone & porcelain

Upholstered panels

Micro-cement & textured plaster
For a quiet, seamless, tactile surface with no joints, micro-cement and polished plasters give a warm, organic backdrop — on-trend with the “quiet luxury” mood and beautiful in soft, neutral tones.

Slim metal reveals in brass or blackened steel, integrated LED washing the surface, a picture-light over art, or a change of plane so the feature sits proud of the wall — these are the touches that turn a nice panel into a crafted one.

How it's built
A quality feature wall is joinery, not decoration. Timber and upholstered panels are made to measure in the workshop and fixed to a prepared, level substrate with concealed fixings; stone is dry-laid or bonded with hidden support; lighting and any reveals are planned into the first fix. Built correctly — with materials conditioned for the dry, air-conditioned climate — a feature wall stays crisp for years. Built from unconditioned materials, timber can move and joints can open, which is why local, workshop-made joinery matters.
What it costs
As a guide, installed: fluted timber panelling around AED 350–900 per m²; upholstered panels similar; micro-cement a little less; book-matched natural stone from about AED 800 per m² upward plus installation. A single villa feature wall commonly totals AED 6,000–30,000, depending on material, size and detailing.

If you want one move that transforms a room, make it a feature wall. Choose a material that suits the mood — warm fluted timber, dramatic stone, soft upholstery or seamless plaster — put it where the eye lands, keep the surrounding walls calm, and finish it with good lighting and fine detailing.
