Introducing Éclat, Nuance & Héritage

For years we specified upholstery job by job — a book borrowed for a week, a design discontinued halfway through a commission, a colourway that existed in the sample but not in the roll. It worked, but it made the fabric the least predictable part of a piece of furniture we otherwise controlled completely. So we stopped doing it that way. Today we are releasing three collections we hold as our own working library: Éclat, Nuance and Héritage — 129 designs in all, every one upholstery weight, every one available to be made up on furniture we build ourselves.

Why three, and only three

It would have been easy to publish a library of six hundred designs and call it choice. That is not choice, it is homework. Almost every upholstery decision a client actually faces resolves to one of three questions: do I want this piece to carry pattern, to recede quietly, or to feel tailored and classic? Each collection answers one of those, properly, with enough range inside it that you are never forced into a compromise.

Éclat — expressive pattern, colour and decorative energy

Sixty-four designs, and the most decorative of the three. Éclat is built from a handful of pattern families — large-scale jacobean florals, medallion suzanis, confident tartans, multi-stripes, a trellis weave and a plain textured ground — each drawn across a full run of colourways. That structure matters more than it sounds: it means you can take the same floral in sage, in burgundy, in sky or in forest without changing the design, so a scheme can be built around a pattern rather than around a colour that happens to exist.

Nuance — subtle texture, tonal depth and contemporary calm

One cloth, twenty-three colourways. Nuance is a fine cross-woven plain with just enough texture in the weave to catch light and stop a large upholstered piece reading flat and dead. It runs from soft ivory, sand and chalk through denim blue, charcoal navy and deep teal to caramel, mustard, burgundy and olive.

It is the quiet workhorse: the fabric you specify when the shape of the sofa is meant to be the subject. And because the whole range is one weave, a suite can be built across several tones — a charcoal three-seater, caramel armchairs, olive cushions — and still read as one family rather than three separate purchases. Héritage — classic motifs, tailored checks and character weaves

Forty-two designs with pattern held under restraint. Héritage runs a tulip sprig, a hexagon tile, a deco arch, a houndstooth and a tailored tartan through a shared palette of plum, forest and ochre, brown, grey and teal. The repeats are small enough to upholster a whole chair without shouting, and structured enough to feel tailored rather than decorative.

The houndstooth and tartans tailor beautifully over a tight-upholstered frame — dining chairs, wingbacks, bench seating. The deco arch and hexagon want a more generous armchair where the repeat has room to be read. See the Héritage collection.

The point is what goes underneath

A fabric library is only worth having if you can do something with it. Ours exists because we make the furniture: frames in kiln-dried hardwood, jointed and glued rather than stapled; foam specified for how you actually sit rather than what fills the shape cheapest; and dimensions drawn to your room instead of a catalogue's idea of a two-seater.

That combination is the whole argument for bespoke. A 2.20 m sofa that fits the wall you have, in a cloth that exists in the colour you want, built to a seat depth that suits your height — none of those three things is remarkable on its own, and together they are the difference between furniture that fits your home and furniture your home has to accommodate. How to see them properly

Not on a screen. Colour on a monitor is a suggestion — a sage that reads cool on a phone can turn warm in a west-facing room at five in the afternoon, and texture does not photograph at all.
